Showing up in ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Claude or Perplexity isn't the same game as ranking on page one of Google. Traditional SEO chases keywords and backlinks, these are still important, but the game has changed. AI search tools are trying to answer a question directly, and they pick businesses they trust enough to recommend by name. That's a trust problem more than a keyword problem.

Why this is different from ranking on Google

Google shows you ten blue links and lets you decide. ChatGPT usually names two or three options and moves on. If you're not one of those two or three, you're effectively invisible for that question, even if your website ranks fine in traditional search.

What AI tools are actually looking for

Our deeper look at AI search visibility covers this in more depth, but the short version: AI search tools favor content that gives a clear, direct answer up front, backed by specific facts rather than vague marketing language. They also favor businesses with a consistent, accurate presence across the web, your website, your Google Business Profile, and any directories or listings all saying the same thing about who you are and what you do.

Third party validation matters more than your own website

This is the part most businesses miss. AI tools lean heavily on what other sources say about you, not just what you say about yourself. Reviews, mentions in industry publications, and third party sites carry more weight than a page on your own site making the same claim. Nobody can pay their way into these results either. It has to be earned.

Practical steps that move the needle

Keep your business information identical everywhere it appears online. Publish content that answers real questions directly and specifically, the way this post is trying to. Ask happy clients for reviews that mention specific services and outcomes, not just a star rating. And check where you currently stand by asking ChatGPT and Perplexity your own industry's common questions and seeing who gets named.

We ran this test ourselves. Twenty common buyer questions, tested across ChatGPT and Perplexity, checking who got named. Every marketing firm we checked came back with zero mentions. Us included. That's not us admitting a weakness, that's the whole market leaving the door open.

This is still an open window

Most of the content currently getting cited on this topic is only a few months old. That means the businesses winning these AI recommendations right now aren't necessarily the biggest names, they're the ones who started publishing and building third party validation before their competitors did.

Where Anuncier fits

We're building this thinking into how we approach content and visibility for every client, not as a separate add on, but as part of how we think about digital strategy overall. If you want to know where your business stands right now, send us your three most common customer questions. We'll run them through ChatGPT and Perplexity and tell you who gets named. No cost, no pitch attached.
