Welcome! I’m James Butz, the founder and driving force behind Anuncier. With over two decades of experience in sales, marketing, and go-to-market strategy, I’ve dedicated my career to helping mission-driven organizations—especially in healthcare, nonprofit, and education sectors—reach their full potential through data-informed strategies, authentic messaging, and sustainable growth practices.

My Experience

My career didn’t begin in a boardroom or a startup incubator—it began with nursing school and a detour that changed everything.

After stepping away from my studies due to personal events, I found myself helping my father run his retail store in Abingdon, Maryland. What started as support turned into a passion. I eventually became the store manager and later I owed the storer. That chapter laid the foundation for my professional life and taught me enduring lessons that still guide my work today:

  • Leadership—good or bad—has a profound ripple effect on everyone involved.

  • Clearly communicating your strategy allows for internal alignment and clarity among your customers.

  • Small businesses, startups, and nonprofits are incubators for innovation that can reshape entire industries.

  • Even the best product, service, or idea will fail if no one knows it exists.

After selling the store, I made the leap into software—an entirely different world. My first role was as an Account Executive selling nonprofit-focused software. It was a massive shift from retail, but I quickly learned the mechanics of complex selling, the value of a clear value proposition, and what true customer alignment looks like. The company grew rapidly, moving from its founder-led stage into private equity—an evolution I had the privilege to be part of.

Eager to reconnect with my healthcare roots, I transitioned into the Electronic Health Records (EHR) space. I joined Foothold Technology, a local company providing EHR solutions to human services organizations. Over time, we transformed it into a national leader. I led cross-functional teams, built sales infrastructures, launched go-to-market strategies, and eventually led the marketing team through a complete transition into a modern inbound engine. Like my previous company, Foothold also reached a private equity exit.

Throughout my software journey, I’ve earned numerous awards and hit President’s Club multiple times. But more importantly, I’ve seen how often marketing and sales efforts—despite good intentions and great products—fall short due to poor strategy, lack of alignment, or simply not knowing where to begin.

This realization hit home while working with a brilliant startup founder who had a fantastic product but little experience in go-to-market execution. That experience was the spark that led to the creation of Anuncier.

Why I Started Anuncier

I launched Anuncier to bring clarity and momentum to organizations that are rich in passion and purpose but need guidance in connecting their value to the market.

Since starting Anuncier, I’ve supported other small businesses and nonprofits—from an education nonprofit to a boat tour company to an app development firm. I love helping organizations uncover what makes them unique, and then amplifying that message through effective, intentional marketing and sales strategies.
